MeterSmart — Privacy Policy

1. What the app stores

MeterSmart saves the following in your device's local storage (localStorage), on your device only:

• Rides you log (from/to, distance, meter fare, amount charged, date)
• Complaints you generate (auto number, route, fare amounts, date and time)
• Your saved home and work location labels
• Preferences: dark mode, language, and the most recent fare-rate configuration

This data never leaves your device. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it for you. You can erase all of it at any time with Profile → Clear All Data, or by uninstalling the app / clearing site data.

2. What the app does not collect

• No name, email, phone number, or account of any kind
• No GPS or device location — distance is a number you type in
• No contacts, photos, files, or device identifiers
• No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies

3. Network requests

The app works fully offline. It makes one optional network request: it downloads fares.json from this same website so that official fare revisions reach you without an app update. That request contains no personal data. Like any web request, the hosting provider (Cloudflare) records standard server log information such as IP address and timestamp, which is used for delivery and abuse prevention and is not linked to any profile.

4. Sharing features

When you tap Share, WhatsApp, or Email, the app hands the text you generated to your own device's share sheet, WhatsApp, or mail app. Nothing is sent until you choose a recipient and send it. Those apps handle the message under their own privacy policies.

5. Fare accuracy disclaimer

MeterSmart is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Karnataka Transport Department, Bangalore Traffic Police, Ola, Uber, or Rapido. Fare figures are our best reading of the published auto-rickshaw tariff and carry a "verified on" date in the app. Ride-app prices shown are estimates derived from the meter fare — those services set their own dynamic prices. Always confirm against the official tariff before relying on a figure in a dispute.

6. Children

MeterSmart is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal data from anyone.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date.
